Our New House Construction
08/07/10 - I think from now on I will only be updating this site once a week. I will do that update on Friday evening or Saturday mornings. This week has been a good week in that the interior framing is pretty much done. John did build a scaffolding or a truss walk in the middle of the house so he can get up high enough to set the roof trusses. He had a crane there on Thursday setting trusses and again on Saturday. He has gotten the porch posts in place and the bricklayer will be here on Tuesday to lay the first 7-8 courses of brick all the way around the house. This needs to be done so that John can put the bandboard on for the porches and do parts of the porch roofs so he can build the front gables. As you will see he has already started putting on some of the roof sheathing. All seems to be going well. This week has been sunny but a little cooler and we have had some afternoon short summer storms.

08/15/10 - Just a heads-up that I won't be updating this page again until sometime over Labor Day week-end. Meanwhile, back at the house on a hill up the hollar we continue to make progress. The first part of the brick work has begun. The bricklayer, Frank Lewis, will start by laying about 7-8 courses high brick around the base of most of the house. He will come back later to finish bricking up the entire house. David Kimmel has brought his crew back to prepare the garage floor for pouring on Monday 8/16/10. John Weimer and his crew continue to work on the roof, overhangs and the porches. The week started out sunny and hot (so what's new...) and ended up cloudy and cool with some late afternoon and evening showers.

I'll be back and updating the site just after Labor Day week-end. I want to wish you all have a SAFE and enjoyable holiday week-end.
