Hello from Lorrie & Henry Krautwurst. While Kristin and Sarah no longer reside with us we still include them on our family page. Lorrie and I both welcome you to our site and encourage you to explore the site and see what is here. There are lots of pictures and who knows who you'll find.
Sarah graduated in 2007 from Marymount University with a degree in Interior Design. She immediately began working for a local high-end residential remodeling firm. Sarah met Jacob Kirk just after starting her new job. She and Jacob got married at the Capon Springs & Farms on October 3, 2009. Sarah now lives with her family on their 20 acre homestead next to us in Capon Springs, WV. She and Jacob both work in their own business, Design Build Live, doing home remodeling, construction management and interior design work. On April 22, 2011 Sarah presented us with a strapping little boy; Isaiah Jackson Kirk. And on Labor Day weekend she presented me with a little singer spaniel named Elvis. She and Jacob just had one dog too many. Elvis loved being out in the country as there were so many new smells to follow. On January 17, 2015 Ellis Andrew Kirk joined their family. In 2022 we added Miss Kitty and Marley; a kitten and a puppy who are best of friends.
We moved to Capon Springs, WV. in October 2009 closing the Chevy Chase chapter of our lives, In June 2010 we started building our new retirement home. Lorrie and I are now well settled into our new home. We moved in on May 6, 2011. Now starts the real fun of unpacking all the stuff in our two car garage and our 24 x 32 workshop. It looks like we'll have a big yard sale next summer. As things go and time flies as of June 2023 we still haven't had that yard sale.
Since moving to West Virginia in October 2009 we have joined Shiloh United Methodist Church, Wardensville Lions Club, Capon Valley Ruritan Club, Capon Valley Neighbor to Neighbor and Wardensville Seniors, a weekly fellowship lunch group. We have made many new friends in the area and even have met one person that not only attended Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in Washington, but also knew my sister and brother-in-law from his association with the Lions Club back in northern Virginia. We are truly fortunate to have moved to such a welcoming, warm and caring community.
We have a family cottage in the hills of WV that was built in the mid 1930's. It is a Swiss style house built into the mountain side. The sun comes up over the mountain behind the house and gently wakes you to a new day. We figured since WV is almost heaven we'd be at least half way there.
Capon is a great retreat from the hustle of city life and a neat place to just relax with family and friends. It is an easy two hour drive from Chevy Chase.
We have enjoyed hiking various local trails and canoeing on the Capon River. The river is a class 1-2 white water and class A scenic river. We have enjoyed many a wild ride on that river. Ever try to canoe in the dark? It's difficult at best! Forty years of coming to Capon Springs on week-ends is what brought us to this area in retirement. We have a lot of good memories from time spent here with family and friends.
We lived on an acre bordering on Rock Creek Park. Standing on our deck you would not get the feeling of being "inside the beltway". Well, being fortunate enough to have this kind of space and a home large enough to handle a "crowd " we decided to have us a family reunion.
So, on June 27, 1998 we invited the whole Krautwurst clan descended from Philip & Katherine Krautwurst. We also had some other Krautwurst descendants and some other family. To us, family is family, so we opened the invitation a little. As a matter of fact, there were nearly 85 people in all. They came from all over the United States and even as far away as the Netherlands.
Nothing has changed since we moved to WV except that we have more land on which to spread out, parking is easier and we can have both our ornamental and vegetable gardens. We want to continue having family reunions so that the family doesn't get together just at funerals.
Kristin graduated from the University of Maryland in 2005 with her degree in Architecture and worked for a large firm in downtown Washington on her first job in her field. After working in the Architecture field for 5 1/2 years she decided to make a major career change. A volunteer job really got her excited about working with children. She quit her job and returned to school to pursue a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. She has been teaching .

kindergarten since 2015.. In her spare time she enjoys hiking and visiting our national Parks. On April 30, 2016 Kristin married Travis Lauver in Mitchellville, MD in an old colonial home. They were married in a beautiful outdoor garden area. In 2018 they purchased their first home in Herndon, VA. They have a young daughter named Hannah.
The living room serves many purposes. It is the central gathering place of the house. In the cooler months it serves as the dining room. It also serves as the game room. Since there is no television available at the cottage, family activities are the evening agenda. There are a variety of games, puzzles and reading material available. Here, Lorrie, Sarah and Kristin are playing scrabble.
