Let us introduce you to Yuko Ishida who is from Nagoya, Japan. Yuko stayed with us from August 3, 2018 through August 28, 2018. Yuko was only with us for three and a half weeks but in that short time we saw a lot and met a lot of people.
She attended church with us as well as Lions and Ruritan meetings.
We visited Luray Caverns, Skyline Drive, Dolly Sods, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob and Washington, DC several times to include a tour of the US Capitol. We toured the Capitol with Anni Huusko and Rino Utaka, another Lions Youth Exchange student who was staying with a nearby family.
While in DC we visited many of the monuments and memorials and the Air & Space Museum near Dulles airport. Her picture to the left was taken when we took a hike to White Cliffs which is about a mile from our home.
We took Yuko to Bluegrass in the Barn so she could experience good old WV style bluegrass. I requested the lead singer, Buddy Dunlap, to play Country Roads for her and told him she travelled from Japan to stay with us. Buddy asked the audience who had travelled the furthest to be there that evening. Hands went up and he started recognizing people. Then he pointed to Yuko who said she was from Japan. A couple of seats down from Yuko another woman jumped up and said that she too was from Japan. At that point she and Yuko enjoyed each others company for quite a while.
Unfortunately, there were places we didn't have time to visit due to other ongoing actvities at home. However, Yuko did return in April 2018 for a visit with us from April 2, 2018 thru April 7, 2018. She had come to Washington, DC in March for a Professional Women's Conference and extended her stay to come back to West Virginia to visit her American family. We thoroughly enjoyed having Yuko with us during the summer and we were thrilled to have her visit in April. We look forward to her next visit as she knows she is always welcome here.
